I am a retired PA State Trooper who has investigated thousands of traffic crashes, from minor to the most serious.
My interest in traffic safety grew as saw the frequency of unnecessary crashes and the impact on people. A large influence on my motivation is the lasting memory of my 16-year-old cousin, who died in a crash on a wet road. She was a passenger in a car that was operated by another teen. It was caused by the lack of skill and inexperience of that new driver.
My interest in traffic safety stems from this work. Many of the crashes involved young people and were preventable.
I have been training drivers for seven years here in Summerville. The lessons are tailored to the individual as a self-paced course. There is no substitute for on the road experience and students get that experience at different rates.
Recommended Courses
Behind-the-wheel Training: This can take 20 to 40 hours, depending on your individual learning pace.
Practice Driving: You’ll need to practice for a significant number of hours to develop proficiency.
Learning to Drive:
- Driver’s Education Course:
This typically involves classroom instruction covering traffic laws, road signs, safe driving practices, and vehicle operation. - Behind-the-Wheel Training:
This involves practicing driving with a certified instructor or a licensed adult. - Practice Driving:
You’ll need to accumulate enough experience and practice driving with a licensed adult to become proficient
- Small In-Person Classes
Not virtual classes There is no denying the fact that talking to an instructor and having others learn along with you gives you a lot of people to talk to. That’s always helpful when you are doing something new.
- In the classroom, you get to share your resources, doubts, and insecurities and be excited about the same things. Since there are a lot of other newbies around, you get to be around when someone thinks of a question that probably did not occur to you. And all of you get an answer from the experienced instructor in the room. It’s a win-win for all
- Individualized Instruction – Tailored to the Student.
Students have a variety of needs, experiences, abilities, instincts, sensitivities, temperaments, etc.. They require flexible teaching styles to reach them and be invested and successful
